The show premiered in 1998 and ran for nine seasons, ending in 2007. Kevin James and Leah Remini starred as Doug and Carrie Heffernan, a married couple who lived in the New York City borough of Queens. Carrie's father, Arthur, played by Jerry Stiller, lived with them.

Patton Oswalt played the role of Spence Olchin in The King of Queens.

Oswalt got his start in the '80s doing stand-up comedy. He became a writer for MADtv and had a comedy special on HBO in 1996.
